REAL LIFE BRIDE
MEGAN & HAMISH
A beautiful wedding at Parley Manor, Dorset.
SHARE YOUR LOVE STORY
We met in 2013 (age 18 and 19) through friends, we denied our connection for a while until we ended up sharing a kiss on the dance floor of Oceana nightclub. We stayed together while I moved away to Bristol for Uni, then we travelled the world together. Came home and settled down and bought a house. During COVID in 2020 we got our cocker spaniel Winnie and decided with weddings on hold we would try for a baby. In 2021 we had our daughter Callie. We decided to get married in 2024 so she would be old enough to enjoy the day too.
INSPIRATION/STYLE OF YOUR WEDDING
Olive Green was sort of the main theme, but a loose theme. Our bridesmaid dresses and napkins were green that was about it. We opted for black and white for everything else, we just felt it was a good fit for our tastes. And that it would never go out of style, the worst anyone could say is it’s ‘boring’ but we felt it was sophisticated and loved all the wedding inspo we saw in similar styles. Although our wedding looks formal, with Black Tie theme, the atmosphere was very relaxed.
FINDING THE DRESS, WAS IT LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT?
Yes absolutely. I had wanted a big princess dress, not my style really but I thought if there was ever a day to wear a big dress it was your wedding day. But as soon as I walked into Hannah Elizabeth, the Maya dress kept catching eye and in the end I had to try it on… and I didn’t want to take it off! I felt it made an impact in the bright pure white colour and lovely train, without needing to be ‘pouffy’
HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR DAY
We made our own wedding cake with our 3 year old Callie the day before the wedding.
Getting ready with my best friends in the morning was just so amazing.
Obviously marrying Hamish was a highlight!
Originally we were supposed to get married outdoors, but due to the weather we had to change the plan the night before. I had told the florist I wanted a meadow of flower and I was gobsmacked when I saw what they had created
In the evening the rain stopped and the sun came out, we had a live singer who sang ‘here comes the sun’ and everyone cheered. Looking around at everyone we loved playing lawn games and dancing was amazing
YOUR WORDS OF WISDOM TO FUTURE BRIDES
No matter how much of a planner you are (I had over 30 different spreadsheets over our 2 year planning journey) you cannot guarantee anything - but if you pick your suppliers wisely who understand your vision then you can relax on the day knowing they’re going to take care of everything and make sure they’d do things as you would yourself. I was so surprised how relaxed I was on the wedding morning knowing everyone was taking care of everything (I’m a control freak everyone was surprised by my relaxed attitude).
YOUR FAVOURITE WEDDING SUPPLIERS
For our ceremony we had Joe Pike as a pianist. Then we had Paul Thorne singing for us in the evening - I just love live music and they made such a great atmosphere.
Jess and the staff at Parley Manor were amazing.
Our florist was Simply Flower - they did the floral set up for the ceremony space and reception space. But my bouquet and Hamish’s buttonhole flowers (with picture of our dog Winnie) was done by my mother in law.
We hired a content creator Undercover Bestie who was amazing! It’s so great to have so many video clips of the day and she was so lovely to have by my side
And of course our photographer Lauren Juliette is the nicest woman alive and so so talented.
